2012 OUTLOOK 29

but I think he’s going to raise some eyebrows this fall.

Q: But you still plan on keeping Dwight as your No. 3 quarterback, taking reps as a QB in practice?

Campbell: Yes, Dwight has too much potential not to do that. He has such a strong arm and is a great runner. So will he just line up at wide receiver? No. He will line up in a multitude of places, including quarterback.

Q: Does it ever get tiresome to always be asked about your starting quarterback situation?

Campbell: Well, it’s diferent so naturally people are going to ask about it. It’s unique so people want to know how it’s working. You always hear in football you can’t play with two quarterbacks. But in this day and age with all the hits that quarterbacks take, I almost think you better have two quarterbacks ready to go. So some might see it as a negative; we see it as a great positive to have two guys with such great talent. I think our fans are starting to get used to it, and I think maybe they appreciate it more now.

Q: Both of your quarterbacks spent a lot of time throwing to Eric Page last year. He’s gone now. Howwill that afect your passing game?

Campbell: We designed a lot of our passing game around Eric. But with him gone, I’ve seen our other receivers gain confdence because they know they are going to get the football. The football is going to be spread around a little more so we might have a more balanced passing game this season.

Q: So how do you make up for Page’s 125 receptions?

Campbell: Our receivers really developed and matured during the of-season.When you look at a guy like Bernard Reedy, he had 40 receptions and nine touchdowns last year. That’s pretty impressive end-result productivity. He has the ability to be Toledo’s next really good receiver. Other guys will just have to step up. James Greenmade some big plays for us last year. Justin Olack continues to grow and show that he’s a good football player. And we’re excited about what Dwight Macon brings to the table. We also have four freshmen receivers coming in. That’s a position where true freshmen can sometimes come in and make an impact

right away.

Q: At another critical position, running back, you lost two seniors—Adonis Thomas and Morgan Williams— who gained almost 5,000 yards between them in their careers. I knowyouarehighon juniorDavidFluellen. Do you see him as the main man in the backfeld now?

Campbell: We’ve loved David Fluellen since the day he arrived and played as a true freshman. David has had some big games for us the past two years. We feel he is a special component to our running game. He has shown a lot of savvy and given us glimpses of what he is going to be. He played really well when Adonis went down last year. David has waited his turn and shared the spotlight. Now he has a chance to be a focal point of our football team.

Q: If history is any indicator, Fluellenwill needapartner or two in the backfeld.

Campbell: One guywho had a great spring is (sophomore) Cassius McDowell. Cassius was a running back in high school who has played receiver for us. We had Cassius play running back in our bowl practices and he looked very good, so we moved him there last spring. He had a very good spring, maybe equal to what Dwight Macon did at receiver. He could have a big role for us as a running back and receiver. That goes back to the idea of, let’s get our best 11 players on the feld. (Senior) David Pasquale has had some big games in a multitude of roles. He’s a big, physical player. We’ve going to continue to fndways to get him the football. We also have some talented walk-ons and true freshmen who could also be a factor at running back.

Q: You moved Cordale Scott from receiver to tight end in the of-season. How is that working out?

Campbell: I’m really proud of the job that Cordale Scott has done at tight end. We tried him there during the bowl practices and it seemed like a goodft for himsowe decided tomake thatmove. Hehas some athleticismbut he’s bigand has the ability to block. He can alsomake plays with the ball in his hands. He could be a match-up problem for teams. We also have (senior) Colby Kratch, who has continued to improve. This will be Colby’s second year in our system at tight end. Colby’s a strong, physical kid who was a good blocker for us last year. (Sophomore) Zac Rosenbauer is
